PRODUCTS / Rotating Biological Contactors

The most versatile and effective wastewater treatment solution with low maintenance cost and energy usage.

Rotating Biological Contactors is an extremely efficient secondary biological wastewater treatment system. It utilizes aerobic fixed film technology to reduce organic matter (BOD5), total suspended solids (TSS), ammonia and phosphorous from domestic and industrial wastewater, achieving a high quality final effluent that is safe for discharge.

Rotating Biological Contactors
Biyodisk Rotating Biodisc Units consist of circular discs made of polyethylene that are 2 m in diameter, 2 mm. in thickness and placed in a series. Disks are placed parallel to each other on a shaft and the shaft is rotated by a motor. Wastewater is filled into long and shallow tanks and the discs are rotated 40-50% submerged in wastewater.
Microorganisms present in wastewater multiply while clinging onto the surface of rotating disk. In this way, the surfaces of disks are coated with a 1 – 2.5 mm thick biofilm. With the rotation of disc, bacteria on the surface makes contact with air and oxygen transfer required for aerobic biological treatment is provided.

Microorganisms in the biofilm on the surface decompose organic matter and this process is repeated at every lap of discs rotated at 3-4 rev / min by a low energy consuming motor.

The amount of bacteria deposited on the disc can be adjusted through rotation speed. Rotation speed of the reducer driving the discs can be increased or reduced by means of a potentiometer. Thus, separation of biofilm-forming bacteria from biofilms is provided through the friction that occurs between wastewater and the biofilm.
Benefits of Biyodisk Rotating Biodisc Units:
  • Corrosion Resistant Body
  • High Specific Surface Area
  • Low Energy, Operation and Maintenance Costs
  • Resistance to High Loads or Shocks
  • Silent and Odorless Working Principle
